Teaching Vision
When teaching, my aim is to share the knowledge and experience I have gained in so many years of studying and working.
I tend to teach rather from a creative perspective than from technical/theorical angle, because students understand better by doing than by listening. It is though important that once they can enjoy from what it is being thought they understand how things work.
In the class I always do my best to help the students with their questions, since I know how important it is for them to understand more about what is their passion, music. I am not omniscient, but I do have experience (studying, teaching and on the work field).
I like to teach and because I love to share what I have learned to make the path easier for newer musicians/producers.

In 2008 I started giving the 'Mixing and Mastering' course.
The course is for music producers who want to have a better understanding about how the mixing and mastering proces works. In 8 lessons they get information and tips on how to make their own productions sound better.
The course takes place twice a year and you can inscribe yourself here.
I just have to add what this student said about the course... It makes me very happy that someone can see it like that:
'...Een tijdje terug heb ik bij studio west de "mixing & mastering" cursus gevolgd. Dit was voor mij een heel leerzame, leuke, gezellige bijeenkomst van mensen met als doel muziek bouwen.
Ik heb heel veel geleerd dat mij altijd zal bijblijven, heb nieuwe contacten gelegd en ben zelfverzekerder geworden.
Hernan was heel vriendelijk en behulpzaam, ook heel erg open opgesteld zodat het heel fijn was om eigen meningen te delen. De les was niet moeilijk om te volgen en zelfs als je een vraag middenin zijn zin zou plaatsen krijg je een goed te begrijpen, simpel en slim antwoord.
Hij heeft ons ook elke week gemaild. Deze e-mails bevatten heel veel informatie en tips. Ik zou echt vijf jaar nodig hebben om achter al deze informatie te komen. Hij was een heel goede leraar voor ons. Dit was mijn best besteedde €30,- ooit!'

'Denver' is an Amsterdam based DJ/Production duo consisting of me & Dennis Branda.
We are trying to keep our music broad and blended by mixing and producing styles from Electro-Funk all the way to Hip-Hop.
We are currently working on their upcoming EP ''MOSTRO" so I would advise everybody to stay tuned!

Is a night hosted by Denver + Makina + Periplo , entirely dedicated to the most exquisite electronic music from Tropical House and Electro funk all the way to Dubstep and even Hip-Hop.
Denver Nights is all about the “whole picture” feeling, meaning it’s not only about the music but also visuals, live acts and art. Denver Nights is about blending all those elements and creating the perfect night of creative experiences and giving the people more than they are used to.

The concept of the evening is more of a happening where there are all sorts of attractions rather than a plain party. The theme is cumbia, a latin american music style that is played from Mexico to Argentina.
In this wonderful cumbia happening you can find live music, the first (and only!) cumbia jam session in Amsterdam; Dj's; dancers; Video projections about cumbia culture; and when possible latin american food and cocktails. To get an idea of the vibes you can check some pics here.

Production Vision
As a producer my role is to help the artist express their musical and sonic ideas.
As a musician and sound technician myself I serve as a bridge between the artists idea's/demos and the end recorded/mixed/mastered result.
I am usually oriented in trying to get a contemporary sound so that the listener will perceive the given production as something 'fresh', a piece of music that couldn't have been made in the past. I am not so much interested in trying to recreate or emulate sounds from other eras.
I have been making music for almost 20 years where I have developed my compositional and arranging skills as well as the 'sound' of my productions. My Dj experience has thought me also what works on the dancefloor.
The production of a song/Ep/album is always a very intense process, where the producer has to lead (not impose) the artist to get the best out of them; make sure to capture the essence of the performance; and finally give form to that.
Since sound is very important to me so I usually mix down the productions I do for other people. I see production and sound as one.

One Morning the sun came up and BANG Henrietta Morgenstern was there, armed with a synthesizer, a crash cymbal and a stick to hit it she was ready to sing and scream from the top of her lungs to make this world a better place. Next to her appeared a one man beat machine named Klaus Plötzlich with drums glued to his feet, a guitar in his hands and many buttons to push. Music, noise, techno, electro and lots of punx should be heard from that moment on all across the land, ...can you hear it? No? Then come and get us...
In March 2011 I finished producing the Ep 'Meat' from this rock band I really like. They are young, energetic and their crowd goes bananas when they perform... ain't that what rock and roll is all about?

This is a short bio:
The story of Voice Calling Radio started when members of the current
producers duo OceansOrphan became friends and started to write songs
together. At that time their basic principle was to record songs not bound
to any music genre, and it still is. In 2007 they formed the band Voice
Calling Radio with the ambition to independent record a full-length album.
The album with the title VCR was released in 2010. A characteristic of the
album is the combination of influences of pop, dance, rock melted with the
broad range of sounds starting from the eighties, nineties until now.
In 2009 I produced two tracks for Maya Likes This (finalist Kunstbende). The style could be defined as LoFI contemporary song-writer. However, best thing to do always is to check the music:

Maya Mertens likes this. is een act rond Maya Mertens in wisselende formaties. Zingend over Chuck Bass en Kimberly Clark speelt ze met jouw jeugd en haar werkelijkheid. Het liefst met twee gitaarakkoorden, een low bit sample en sans gêne.
Eerder speelde ze in de Sugarfactory op Stofpop en was ze finalist van het Rozentuin festival en Kunstbende. Van de zomer heeft ze verschillende sets uitgeprobeerd op festivals als Whish Outdoor en Onderstroom. Ook stond ze deze zomer nog onverwachts op het podium van de ogoNONogo op Lowlands.

The idea of this project was to connect youth from different parts of the world to bring attention about equal chances for youth across the world. They do so via their common passion, music. In 2010 youngsters from te Netherlands, Tanzania and India met in Delhi to record songs.
In 2009/2010 I worked as a music coach and togehter with with kids from Holland, Tanzania and India I produced a few tracks. Check one of them here:

Demo production is a project for young artists (between 15 and 25 years old) which I started in 2007 at Studio West. The idea is to produce a professional demo for this upcoming artists that can be used to get gigs, promote their music or take part in music contests such as 'De Grote prijs van Nederland' or 'Kunstbende'.
Besides getting their demo the participants also learn about the music production process in general, from arranging numbers to mixing audio. Every 3 months there is place for new artists so If you are interested in taking part of the next 'Demo Production' edition just send me an email.
